Summer Vacation No.1

Our first trip this summer was a road trip up the California coast.

My parents and I drove with the kids on July 4th to Atascadero, CA.
We spent the afternoon and evening at my cousin, Kendall's, celebrating the 4th with her extended family.  (Rex's side of the family was having a reunion and they invited us to join them for dinner.)
On the 5th we had breakfast with my central coast Covington family-- Grandma Cov, Uncle Kevin, Aunt Felicia, cousins Matt & Kendall and their families (Charlotte, Benji, Charlie, Daniel, Rex, Jaden, Brady, Sam & Oliver) and then drove further north, past San Francisco, to Occidental, California.

We stayed in a cabin with my parents, Michael, and Jillian; for my cousin, Siobhan,'s wedding weekend.

These giant trees were right outside the cabin, and were the view from my bedroom.

The lighting at twilight/dusk was beautiful.

This was our cabin's living room.

Siobhan and Michael had a beautiful wedding and reception on Saturday.  Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures because I had my hands full with children, but we had a good time--especially at the reception.  They had a great live band and Emily kept us up dancing WAY past her bedtime!

Sunday, after breakfast with the extended Poling family (Uncle Bubba, Aunt Emmie, Kathleen, Chris, Callum, Cedric, Siobhan, Michael, Kerry, Diane, Aunt Carol and Uncle Tommy), we packed up the car and drove to Cambria.

That evening Peter arrived.  (He couldn't come to the wedding because he couldn't miss work.)
We spent the next few days in Cambria with my parents, kids, Michael & Jill hanging out at the beach, at our rental house, exploring the city, etc.  It was a nice, easy, little getaway.

One evening Grandma, Kevin, Felicia, Matt (and kids), and Rex & Kendall (and kids) came for dinner and we all had fun watching the kids play and catching up.

(As you can see, Emily is the only Covington great granddaughter so far--of 9 great grandkids!)

Our rental overlooked the ocean and it was a nice little walk down the hill to get to this lovely view.
